The Allego and EV charging highlights

Flanders-wide network for public charging available in 2017

11 May 2017

Allego has been awarded the charging stations concession put out to tender by network administrators Eandis and Infrax on behalf of the Flemish government.

The concession comprises 644 to 1044 charging stations for electric cars and is part of the Flemish government’s “Clean Power for Transport” plan to support rapid growth in electric mobility in Flanders. Directed by the Allego office in Flanders, this important addition to the existing network of charging stations is being implemented in close cooperation with local and international partners. The charging stations will form part of Allego’s European interoperable charging network that already exists of more than 4700 charging points in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.

Public charging throughout Flanders

By 31 December 2017, Allego will install 644 to 1044 public charging stations in 305 different Flemish municipalities. The final amount of installed chargers, after the first 644 have been placed, will depend on demand driven applications. This will make Allego the largest provider of public charging infrastructure in Belgium. Installation of the charging stations in Flanders is in line with the mission of making an affordable and reliable European charging network available for everyone and stimulating the growth of electrical mobility.

Charging structure in Europe

Of the 500,000 electric cars in Europe, 42% are used in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. These countries therefore have a relatively high demand for charging infrastructure and are among the top 10 growth markets for electric vehicles. By operating within these markets and by deploying locally acquired knowledge internationally, Allego is able to expand its network and increase the quality it provides for users in all countries.

Allego currently has a solid position with, among other things, a fast-charger network of 215 stations and a rapidly expanding public charging network. In 2017, that network will provide some 450 municipalities with a charging solution for residents and visitors. Given the expected rapid increase in electrical transport within Europe, the need for charging infrastructure is set to increase rapidly also.
